Jean Ketcham:
A Cancer Survivor Who Made her First Skydive at Age 60! When Jean turned 60, she took on the challenge of jumping out of an airplane at 14,000 feet with her 91-year-old father. Today this 70-year-old, strong woman is also a cancer survivor. Talk about Aging But Dangerous.
Jean has a passion for cooking, is a clothes horse and an astute business woman willing to roll the dice on speculative business ventures. Despite her extreme allergies to most animals, she co-owns a kennel in Minnesota that is getting ready to be franchised nationally.
She learned a lot about what makes women tick, about their bodies, attitudes, and dreams during her many years in the fashion business. She also enjoyed close relationships for over 20 years with many of the young women she met and mentored when they were first out of college and starting in the design business.
Jean’s down-to-earth manor and warmth, combined with her co-founder’s zaniness and energy, have been the ingredients for a wonderful and happy friendship that has lasted 30 years.
“You’ve got to take care of yourself because no one else is going to do it for you.” —Jean’s Motto
C. Suzanne Bates:
Commitment to Empowering Women Inspired by Her Strong Mother and Grandmothers
Suzanne’s commitment to empowering women through ABD was inspired by her ever-evolving mother and strong, courageous grandmother. Her fascination with the psyche of aging women began with her mother’s determination to get a face lift despite the non-approving grumbles of her father (who was 15 years older but looked amazingly similar in age). Her mother was always pretty and fashionable and carried herself with a great sense of style. Her mother continued to maintain her surgically induced youthful looks, which reinforced her positive spirit and joy for life every time her she looked in the mirror.
Many years later Suzanne discovered an ad in a fashion magazine that proclaimed, “I don’t intend to grow old gracefully – I intend to fight it every step of the way.” The gauntlet had been thrown. Suzanne also intends to fight Father Time and knows she will not win the war but is confident she will emerge victorious in most of the battles.
“You are never too old to rock and roll.” — Suzanne’s Motto
