SNIPPET

Growing “green” grass is somewhat of an oxymoron due to the fact that most of us use pesticides and synthetic nitrogen to accomplish that end—and that is dangerous.  At Harvard they have switched their lawn care to organic methods like compost and compost tea and the results have been stunning.   The microbes that now feed the grass have turned it healthy, lush and truly green NATURALLY—and that is wise.  www.uos.harvard.edu/fmo/landscape/organiclandscaping

SICK NO MORE-Part II

Making The Flu Season Less Dangerous-Part II
by Dr. Barbro Brost (DC)

Even the American Medical Association recognizes that everyone needs to take a high quality multi-vitamin to maintain optimum health. Make sure you get all the vitamins, minerals and trace minerals that the body needs to perform it’s billions of different functions every day.  There are uncountable brands on the market, buy a good one!  When it comes to vitamins you usually get what you pay for.  Quality costs to produce.

Supplements that specifically enhance your immune function are vitamin D, C, garlic, Echinacea and many herbal combinations put together for immune simulation.

Vitamin D3 in a high dosage has been shown in research to protect against the flu as effectively as the flu vaccine.   I recommend 5000 mg per day through the winter when we don’t get sun exposure.  Read about D3 and the flu on Dr.

We are inundated daily about the dangers of the flu, the H1N1 virus and the hype of a shortage of vaccines.  What is never mentioned in the media, since it is totally under control of who pays for advertising time (big pharma), are the potential dangers and side effects of the flu vaccine (Check out Gillian Barre’s & Dystonia syndrome on the inter-net.)  What can we do to stay healthy through the winter whether we decide to get vaccinated or not?

A healthy lifestyle, eating healthy, live foods; fruit, vegetables, legumes, nuts, fish, chicken and occasional red meat is the foundation to build a healthy body and a well functioning immune system.  A good rule of thumb at the grocery store is to shop the periphery.  Avoid all the packaged, processed foods in the center aisles.  The more organic foods the better.  Herbicides and pesticides sprayed on food are poisons that weaken your body’s immunity.  Avoid sugar, FLEE from artificial sweeteners!

Exercising to promote good circulation and to keep your weight at a healthy level is also part of immune building strategy.  A higher percentage of body fat than recommended affects normal insulin balance, which lowers your immune response.
