With beautiful, blue skies as a backdrop, 106 amazing women reduced their “but” on Saturday, in Baldwin, WI, to set a world skydiving record, while greatly enhancing their mojo, AND helping abused women.   Here are some of their stories.

“My reason for jumping…

I am a personal care provider for a 17 year old who cannot walk, has the cognitive ability of a 3 year old, and an elderly couple in their 90′s. Working with them has given me the desire to live MY life to the fullest. My 91 year old man sits in his recliner day in and day out, healthy as can be, but not wanting to participate in life anymore. He told me the other day that he’d always looked forward to retiring to relax and have fun, but now sees that the “good times” were really back when he was working, socializing, living! The boy I care for will never have the ability to make choices as far as doing things like skydiving, boating around the world, or even where he’d like to live. I have those choices. I CAN choose to live life to the fullest! And because I can, I intend to experience everything I can for just as long as I can…for me…and for them.”

“I am jumping because I have wanted to step out on the clouds since my first flight as a little child across the Atlantic ocean and this seems the best way to do it.  I want my grandchildren to be in awe. I want to have something new to rejoice in.  I want the bragging rights. I want to be part of something bigger than me.  And, why not?”

My story:  I am 69.  I have 2 grown sons with the same birthday – August 28th.  I have already sent them birthday cards with the following message:

“In honor of your birthday this year, I plan to sky-dive from 13,000 feet over Baldwin, Wisconsin, at about noon.  I would be delighted to have you join the celebration!  I expect the experience to be far less painful and nearly as thrilling as the day you were born!  Love, Mom…

Thank you for your kind consideration and for all your work in arranging this dream of a lifetime!”

“I am 58 and I hope that isn’t the oldest.  I am the only one in my group, everyone else thinks I am crazy. I booked late and my deciding factor was that my life stunk so bad on Sunday and this was at the top of my bucket list, so I said why not !!!!”

“I am 74-just 3 weeks short of 75 at the time of the jump.  If I’m not the oldest, I must be up there in the top age bracket.

Since my husband & I moved to Baldwin 11 years ago, we watched the sky divers everyday & always said “someday we will do that.”  Someday never came for my husband, as he passed away 2 years ago.  When the opportunity came for this event, I knew I had to do it for both of us.  He will be riding that trip down with me.”

One of our jumpers—and a member of the Aging But DANGEROUS™ modeling squad—summed it up in a note we received on Sunday!!

I am sure you are drowning in emails. I just want to say how wonderful my jump experience was. The energy was all about love and support. What an honor to be a woman with so many courageous ABD sisters! “
Love you much,
Donna

I just visited my parents and my dad (who will be 92 this month) said he really envies me this memorable experience. He was a B-17 co-pilot in WWII, and has always enjoyed the skies. I’m sure that’s where I got my love of being above or in the clouds. I would love to jump again and have him join me, but his health prevents it. He thoroughly enjoyed watching the video and seeing the fantastic pictures of me having so much fun. Love you Dad! Thanks ABD and Skydive Twin Cities!
